Agustín Cruz is a Ralph Bunche Scholar at Los Angeles City College; he is transferring to a university in the fall where he will double major in Critical Film Studies and Latinx and Latino Studies. He is concentrated on Latinx representation in media, and he is particularly interested in interrogating the New Maricón Cinema and New Queer Cinema movements. Agustín is a first-generation Chicanx; his parents are Mexican immigrants, and his grandparents were Braceros.
He grew up in the Coachella Valley and the Inland Empire before moving to Los Angeles more than a decade ago. Ultimately, Agustín plans to teach Chicana/o Studies and Film to provide future storytellers with the knowledge to improve on Chicanx and Latinx representation.
