Agustín is studying Film and Chicanx Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. His research topics include theorizing about Xicanx Cinema, film and critical race theory, Hollywood as a site of epistemic violence, changing the historical record, alternative forms of storytelling, and Xicanx futurity. With the guidance of the Latinx Research Center in Berkeley, Agustín interrogates Xicanx visual aesthetics, and a decolonial gaze through film and media. His work seeks to shift the narrative away from "the U.S. = a better life" and "the American dream" tropes, while revisioning the archive to reveal visions of the future for Indigenous and Mexican-origin peoples.
