Weaving old home videos with a fictional narrative, this dark comedy-drama presents a nurse who refuses to comply with her husband’s unwavering wish to end it all.
Told through the son's perspective, this is Juan's story, a Cuban man who migrates to America and works hard for years only to be rewarded, shortly after his retirement, with a terminal illness. Not wanting to experience the gruesome death that awaits, Juan tries to convince his wife, Aida, to shoot him before things get really bad. Aida refuses to comply with Juan's unwavering wish, but another family member may be willing to do the deed.
Adrian Cardenas is a Cuban-American writer/director and former Major League Baseball player for the Chicago Cubs who was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from NYU with degrees in creative writing and philosophy. He has published articles for the New Yorker and CNN, and received his M.F.A. in film at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Adrian has written, directed, and shot films that have screened at top festivals, including SXSW, Palm Springs, HollyShorts, Cinequest, Atlanta, Miami, and have been selected as Vimeo Staff Picks. His short, "The Artisan", was the first Cuban film ever featured on Short of the Week.
