Born in Puerto Rico, in her work as a filmmaker María del Mar Rosario explores themes at the intersection of gender and colonialism. She holds a BA in Film Studies and Creative Nonfiction from Columbia University, and completed her postgraduate studies in documentary directing at the School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. Her short films have screened at IDFA, HotDocs, Palms Springs, The French Cinematheque in Paris and Metrograph in New York. María del Mar was part of the Independent Study Program of the Contemporary Museum of San Juan in 2021 and the Cine Qua Non Lab storyline residency in 2022 where she has been developing her debut feature.
