More than just another music scene in Mexico City.
Entering a ballroom is like being on the edge of another world, far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. "Danzoneros" brings a buoyant glimpse into a community of elegant dance veterans who for 40 years have been gathering in the last remaining historic ballroom in Mexico City, in honor of Danzón.
Chiara Bonetti (born 1986, Modena) is an Italian self-made photographer and director. Now based between Berlin and Mexico City.
Her practice focuses on projects concerning cultural issues, particular aspects of subcultures, rarely documented communities that are united by a shared identity, passion or cultural heritage. Her research is driven by the need to explore themes such as identity, memories, traditions, rituals that unite individuals as a collectivity and that are often about to vanish with the rush to modernity. She is interested in true and tangible character-focused stories, often told by combining photography and video.
