USA | 18 min | 2022

"Negra, Yo Soy Bella" is a portrait of Mar Cruz –an Afro-Puerto Rican woman who sources strength, healing and black pride through the tradition of Bomba.

Black women in Puerto Rico are leading the Afro-latinidad movement while shifting societal beauty standards. Mar Cruz, an Afro-Puerto Rican woman, uses Bomba, a rhythm and dance form created by Africans in the 1600s, to connect with her roots and transform and heal.
