Stoned Breakups: Shari
Directed by Benjamin-Shalom Rodriguez
USA | 8 min | 2022
Issa Rae's INSECURE costumer, Shari Bisnaught, gets high and retells the harrowing breakup from her gaslighting ex-husband as sober comedians reenact it. Starring Jordyn Barber as Shari and Hollywood Fringe Fest breakout Mia-Carina Mollicone as Kent.
Spanning across nearly a decade, and from a heavy metal bar in Florida to Griffith Observatory in LA, Shari gets super high and retells her tumultuous relationship with a gaslighting musician named "Kent," their impromptu nuptials, and inevitable divorce.
Benjamin-Shalom Rodriguez is a queer, Mexican-Israeli-American writer, director, and comedian. He’s the child of a right wing Zionist mom, and a liberal formerly undocumented Mexican dad...They’re divorced.
Ben just wrapped production on season 2 of "Stoned Breakups", is in post on his feature directorial debut, America's Next Top Immigrant, which he partnered with Blackmagic Collective on, and recently developed a half-hour animated project with Sony. He's also an alumnus of Sundance Screenwriters Intensive, Ryan Murphy’s HALF, NHMC TV Writers Workshop, Fox Writers Intensive, CBS Diversity Showcase, Project Involve, and a recipient of Will & Jada Smith's Family Foundation feature development grant for his film, Bar Mitzvah Boy.
