- [History](https://laliff.org/history/): LALIFF was founded in 1997 when Edward James Olmos and co-founders Marlene Dermer (1997-2014), Kirk Whisler and the late George Hernandez joined forces with the City of Los Angeles to form the first-ever Latino focused international film festival. Recognized for its discovery of emerging Latino talent, LALIFF has been home to first films by Academy Award-winning directors, Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuaron, Alejandro G. Iñarritu, and Pablo Larrain, as well as home to the first films by Golden Globe-winning actresses, Gina Rodriguez and America Ferrera.

- [Alexis C. García](https://laliff.org/fellowship/alexis-c-garcia/): Alexis Garcia is a writer, director and proud Afro Boricua whose work has spanned both TV and digital. She was the voice of Pero Like, working behind the scenes for the brand as its content strategist before becoming the creator and showrunner of its Webby Award winning series, Mi Quinceañera Come True. Through her previous work at Univision’s Flama and current work as Supervising Producer for Pero Like, Alexis has honed an expertise in Latinx audiences & storytelling across multiple platforms, and is passionate about driving critical conversations that inform and uplift the Latinx community.
- [Ambar Navarro](https://laliff.org/fellowship/ambar-navarro/): Ambar Navarro is a Mexican-American director currently based in Los Angeles. She was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, where she spent most of her adolescence involved in the local punk scene. Her filmmaking style is heavily influenced by her “d.i.y do-it-yourself” attitude, which she carries into her work. She earned a B.F.A. in Experimental Animation from the California Institute of the Arts where she studied stop motion animation and miniature fabrication. Her storytelling incorporates practical and in-camera VFX, as well as surrealism. Ambar Navarro draws inspiration from horror films of the 60s and 70s, and she enjoys creating strong female characters with magical abilities.
- [Asha Chai-Chang](https://laliff.org/fellowship/asha-chai-chang/): Award winning writer/director and Emmy nominated producer. As an Afro-Latina and Caribbean-Asian American with disabilities, Asha is a stigma disruptor, a Yale graduate and a former finance professional. Her films “Spoiler Alert” and “All by Design”, have been recognized by Oscar-qualifying film festivals and the NAACP. Asha is creating a preschool animated Spanish bilingual TV series, “Wendy on Wheels”, and the fantasy teen comedy, “Harlequin Heights”. She serves as co-founder, co-captain, and Juror for the Academy Award qualifying Unstoppable program at Slamdance Film Festival and has been interviewed by publications including Variety, Hollywood Reporter, and Forbes.
- [Chloe Caudillo](https://laliff.org/fellowship/chloe-caudillo/): Mexican-American writer and director and graduate of The Second City Film School. She writes supernatural dramedies that “flip the script” and feature unconventional characters. Her experience as a bicultural woman is infused in her storytelling, and themes of identity and classism are prominent in her work. Her stories often contain elements of comedy, drama, horror, sci-fi, and surrealism. Short films that Chloe has written, directed, and produced have been Official Selections at the Latino Film Market, Portland Film Festival, Chicago International Genre Film Festival, CineSol Film Festival, Official Latino Short Film Festival, Little México Film Festival, Cleveland Concoction, and Brownsville Latino Comics Expo Film Festival.
- [Cynthia Garcia Williams](https://laliff.org/fellowship/cynthia-garcia-williams/): California native born to a mother from Matanzas, Cuba, and a father from Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2021, Cynthia made her directorial debut with “Dukkha”, created as part of the Women of Color Filmmakers Directors Lab, now making its way through the festival circuit, winning several awards. Her second short, “Bilongo”, is an Afro-Cuban folk story, winner of awards such as the Audience Choice Award and Best Supernatural Film. Throughout 2022, Cynthia has worked on close to a dozen films. She is currently in production for “The Bible Thumper and the Bruja”, a dark comedy that ignites the imagination and reveals both the power and the vulnerabilities of humankind.
- [Daniel Eduvijes Carrera](https://laliff.org/fellowship/daniel-eduvijes-carrera/): The youngest son from a Mexican immigrant family of nine, Daniel Eduvijes Carrera achieved the highest honors in Film and English Literature from the University of California at Berkeley, studied Cinema and Mexican Culture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and was awarded a Dean’s Fellowship for an MFA from Columbia University’s Graduate School of the Arts. He received the SFFILM Screenwriting Grant for “Invoking Juan Angel”, which won Best Screenplay at the Downtown Los Angeles Film Festival where his subsequent film, “Soledad de los Incendios” was also awarded Best Short Film. His latest work, “El Paisa”, premiered at Outfest Los Angeles 2023, and has gone on to garner Audience and Jury Awards at the Long Beach, Highland Park and East LA Film Festivals. Following its festival tour, it will air on PBS channels nationwide. His films have also screened at the Tribeca, Guadalajara and Morelia Film Festivals, at numerous art museums and on international television broadcasts. He won Top Prize in Ovation TV’s “Search for the Next Revolutionary Filmmaker,” received the Garcia Bross Award at the Morelia International Film Festival, the Imagen Award for Excellence in Entertainment and Best Latine Film Director by the Directors Guild of America Student Film Awards.
- [Eli Vazquez](https://laliff.org/fellowship/eli-vazquez/): Eli Vazquez is a proud afro-Mexi-Rican, hailing from Chicago, IL. After disappointing his mother who wanted him to be a priest, Eli went on to become a filmmaker, writer, and digital storyteller. Eli is a writer/producer for BuzzFeed’s Latinx digital brand Pero Like, generating over 500 million views online through his video work and director of his own digital production company Hype Media House which focuses on uplifting and creating more BIPOC stories on screen. In 2018 he became a fellow in the HOLA Mexico Film Festivals, Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today program and recently was chosen as a NHMC's Writer Fellow. Eli’s projects have been seen at such festivals as the Chicago International Latino Film Festival, Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, and most recently nominated for multiple awards at the Official Latino Film and Arts Festival.
- [Elyssa Aquino](https://laliff.org/fellowship/elyssa-aquino/): Elyssa Aquino is a Dominican filmmaker, born and raised in the Bronx, who celebrates Latina female-driven Dramedy. She enjoys exploring political and social conversations with a comedic twist. As a Director, her narrative film "Secadora" has gained the attention of Popsugar Magazine and Inwood Film Festival. Alongside her narrative work, Elyssa has filmed celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Kevin Hart, Issa Rae, and Maluma for Men’s Health and Esquire Magazine. Elyssa’s vision is to empower women of color in front and behind the camera.
- [Eric Ibarra](https://laliff.org/fellowship/eric-ibarra/): Eric Armando Ibarra is a Chicano filmmaker from the Mexican border town of Chula Vista, CA. After studying film in New York City, Eric began creating video content for clients like The Fader, The Sundance Institute, and Live Nation. His original works, from short films to feature scripts, have been recognized by the Los Angeles International Shorts Film Festival, the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, the NYC International Screenplay Awards, and the Southern California Screenplay Competition. Eric was a participant of Hola Mexico’s Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today 2022 cohort. By focusing on genuine storytelling, with moments of surrealism and dark comedy, Eric shines a light on stories about the transborder and Chicanx communities. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
- [Evelyn Lorena](https://laliff.org/fellowship/evelyn-lorena/): Evelyn Lorena is an actress and filmmaker. With Nouvelle Entertainment, her production collective, Evelyn has written and produced films that have premiered at Academy Award qualifying festivals such as Outfest Los Angeles and the Cleveland International Film Festival. Evelyn has also directed short-form content and music videos for several Los Angeles recording artists, as well as a short for Outfest Fusion, which was awarded Best Short. Her online videos for a prominent Democratic Party Candidate went viral and caught the attention of thousands of viewers, including celebrities such as Rosario Dawson. Evelyn was also one the directing semi-finalists for the inaugural Brisk Creator's Class, sponsored by Michael B. Jordan and his company Outlier Society. She has also expanded into VR film with her latest short, “Thirteen”. Her series Crash Dance is currently being adapted for television and she is developing two feature film scripts. - [Felix Martiz](https://laliff.org/fellowship/felix-martiz/): Felix Martiz was born and raised in South Los Angeles. His tight bond with his community is what inspires him to write and direct films. Exposed to international cinema at a young age, films like The Red Balloon and films from the Italian Neo-Realism movement, showed him that films could come from anywhere, not just a studio. With over a dozen short films to his credit, Felix has screened at festivals across the country and won awards such as a New York Latino Film Festival Best Episodic Award for his film “Gone” (2021). Filmmaking is a passion that he believes can empower the youth of tomorrow. As an educator with a Master of Fine Arts degree from Mount St. Mary’s College, he mentors for the Youth Cinema Project in addition to volunteering for other youth organizations.
- [Gabriella A. Moses](https://laliff.org/fellowship/gabriella-a-moses/): Gabriella A. Moses is a director, writer, and production designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Her production design work has been featured across top film festivals across the globe including Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca and SXSW. Gabriella has been a Hispanic Coalition of NY Rising Latino Stars and a Shadow Director for the ABC Diversity Showcase. Gabriella is currently developing her debut feature Leche, which has received support from the Sundance Institute’s Creative Producing Lab, the NYWIFT "From Script to Pre-Production" Workshop, Sundance Screenwriter's Intensive, Tribeca Film Institute All Access Lab, Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund program and IFP No Borders Program. She has most recently been a Tribeca and Chanel Through Her Lens fellow. She believes in sharing stories with underrepresented protagonists that test viewer’s perceptions of identity and their imaginations.
- [Gerardo “Gerry” Maravilla](https://laliff.org/fellowship/gerardo-gerry-maravilla/): Gerardo ‘Gerry’ Maravilla is a Mexican-American writer/director based in Los Angeles. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley, he escaped his suburban Catholic upbringing through punk rock and horror movies. He’s been a fellow in Film Independent’s Project Involve, the New York Film Festival’s Artist Academy, Hola Mexico’s Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today, and the Stowe Story Labs. His work has screened at festivals such as Palm Springs ShortFest, the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF), the Newport Beach Film Festival, and many others. Recently, he participated in the Cine Qua Non Storylines Lab with his feature script, Niño de vidrio (Child of Glass). The short version won the 2023 Roadmap Writers Short Script Competition. He’s just completed post-production on the surreal horror short, “Vivir”.
- [Gianfranco Fernandez-Ruiz](https://laliff.org/fellowship/gianfranco-fernandez-ruiz/): Gianfranco is a Boston native and Los Angeles-based writer and director, who earned an MFA in Directing from the AFI Conservatory. His work explores wrought relationships that survive, even when stifled by the weight of responsibility, purpose and uncertainty. Often representing characters of diverse backgrounds, Gianfranco believes that culture, race, and tradition should be integral to a character’s identity, but always second to story. He is one of five selected finalists of the 2023 HBO Short Film Award for his work on “Jerome” and was selected as winner of the inaugural Flip the Script Short Film Fund for emerging BIPOC filmmakers. “Jerome” also received an Honorable Mention for Best Short Film at the Urbanworld Film Festival. His satirical horror short SABORRRR! premiered at Fantastic Fest and had its Los Angeles premiere at LALIFF. His feature script Summer of Mercedes is a Sundance Lab Second-Rounder and was a Nicholls Fellowship quarterfinalist.
- [Giselle Bonilla](https://laliff.org/fellowship/giselle-bonilla/): Born and raised in Los Angeles, Giselle started her career as a child actor but felt unfulfilled and limited by the lack of opportunities for Latinos in comedy. She received her MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute Conservatory (AFI) and was a recipient of the AUDI Fellowship for Women which sponsors one promising female director with a full-tuition scholarship for the program. Her AFI thesis film “The Bullfighter” is a 2023 Student DGA Award Winner and was nominated in the Student Etudes Competition at the 2023 EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival. Giselle is a 2023 Telluride FilmLAB Fellow, a 2021 Deutsche Bank Frieze Filmmaking Fellow, and an alum of the Sundance Institute as a 2020 Ignite x Adobe Fellow. She received her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where her undergrad thesis film “Virgencita” received the Horizon Award at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
- [Glenís Hunter](https://laliff.org/fellowship/glenis-hunter/): Originally from New York, Glenís Hunter is a writer/actress based in LA. She is of Dominican, Black and Native American (Shinnecock) descent. Glenís enjoys creating TV pilots and films that celebrate her cultures and speak to social oppression. She was part of LALIFF with her episodic short “Woke”, in 2020.
- [Jalmer Caceres](https://laliff.org/fellowship/jalmer-caceres/): Writer/director born in El Salvador. After arriving in the US at the age of five and growing up in Los Angeles as a latchkey child, he fell in love with Movies and American Television through countless hours of unsupervised viewing. Jalmer became the first in his family to graduate from college and recently attained his M.F.A. from the American Film Institute. He was a 2021 Diverso Minority Report Screenwriting Fellow, and a 2022 selected writer/director for Lena Waithe’s Executive Produced Season 2, Indeed Rising Voices Program. His film “Empty Bases” debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
- [Jeanette Dilone](https://laliff.org/fellowship/jeanette-dilone/): Jeanette Dilone is an actor, writer, and director, born and raised in Washington Heights, New York City. Since graduating from Columbia University, her acting work has spanned television, film, theater, commercials and new media. She made her directorial debut with the short film, "Return," which she also wrote and produced. It premiered at the NY Shorts International Film Festival and was acquired by Shorts TV. Her second short, "Rizo", which she wrote, produced and directed, premiered at LALIFF. “Rizo” won the 2020 HBO Latinx Short Film Competition and is now available to stream on HBOMax.
- [JUSTIN FLOYD](https://laliff.org/fellowship/justin-floyd/): Justin Floyd is an Afro-Latin writer & director from Compton, CA. The Inner-City Filmmakers’ alumnus landed on stage at the Academy Awards in 2015 as part of “Team Oscar” for his short, THE CENTER. Floyd is a 2016 Sundance Ignite Fellow and was named a Warner Bros. 2017 Emerging Film Director. His short, RESURRECT, was acquired by HBO. Floyd’s most recent short, FOTOS DE BLANCAS, was filmed in Valle De Chalco, Mexico, and is expected to premiere in 2021.
- [KESA PEÑA](https://laliff.org/fellowship/kesa-pena/): Kase is an award-winning New York City born filmmaker. She’s a trans woman of color, the offspring of working class parents from the Dominican Republic. Kase is currently developing a project with legendary trans icon Carmen Carrera and Stephanie Beatriz of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “In The Heights” fame. Her feature screenplay I Love Hate, the recipient of The Sundance Institute Launch Grant, is being produced by Angel Lopez. HBO has picked up distribution rights for two of Kase’s short films: “Full Beat” and “Trabajo”.
- [Kristi Uribes](https://laliff.org/fellowship/kristi-uribes/): Kristi was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. As an only child, her babysitter was often films and TV shows that whisked her off on adventures. While attending UC Davis, she realized she could make her own films and adventures. She continued to make films while at USC's School of Cinematic Arts where she received an MFA in Film and Television Production. After graduating from USC in 2011, Kristi worked in various positions in film and television, including on TV shows for Sony, ABC and Marvel. Kristi is currently living in Los Angeles with her Fiancé Josh and bossy cat Daisy Mae.
- [Lauren Ballesteros](https://laliff.org/fellowship/lauren-ballesteros/): Fourth generation Chicana, poet, actor, and writer born in El Monte, CA. Writing, directing, and producing credits include several runs of “Chicanas, Cholas, y Chisme” all women Latinx collective and theater festival at CASA 0101. Lauren is also co-founder of Matriarchy Films, a women of color production trio that focuses on Latinx-BIPOC storytelling, in front of and behind the camera. She wrote and directed her first short film “Token” in 2018. Their latest production, “Confessions to the Moon” is set to premiere in the summer of 2023.
- [LORENA DURÁN](https://laliff.org/fellowship/lorena-duran/): Lorena Durán is an award-winning filmmaker born in New York and raised in the Dominican Republic. She received an MFA from the NYU Graduate Film Program and was selected for the 2019 Film Independent Project Involve Fellowship for emerging filmmakers. Her latest short film as writer/director, The Fisherwoman, featured at multiple film festivals, including Palm Springs ShortFest and Atlanta Film Festival. Her work as a cinematographer has been screened in many international events and platforms, from Tribeca Film Festival to Vimeo Staff Pick, and has received the 2019 ARRI Volker Bahnemann Award for Outstanding Cinematography.
- [María del Mar Rosario](https://laliff.org/fellowship/maria-del-mar-rosario/): Born in Puerto Rico, in her work as a filmmaker she explores themes at the intersection of gender and colonialism, and the poetics of the female body under realistic, uncanny aesthetics. She graduated with a BA in Film Studies and Creative Nonfiction from Columbia University, and later completed her postgraduate studies in documentary directing at the School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. Her short films have screened at IDFA, HotDocs, Palms Springs, The French Cinematheque and Metrograph. She also holds an MFA in Media Arts Production from the City University of New York.
- [Miguel Angel Durán](https://laliff.org/fellowship/miguel-angel-duran/): Award-winning writer/director whose work spans documentaries, films, and branded content. His first feature-length documentary, Unrest, focuses on the tumultuous founding of the first Chicana/o Studies Department in the US. He then directed “The Valley in The Struggle'', narrated by acclaimed actor Jacob Vargas. Recently, he directed “Immigrant Voices of America”, an eight-episode documentary series that won the Jury Award for Best Episodic Documentary from the 2020 Bentonville Film Festival. His feature-length script, Viva el Rock!!, is currently trending on The Black List.
- [Monica Suriyage](https://laliff.org/fellowship/monica-suriyage/): Monica Suriyage is a biracial, blasian, first generation, afro latina whose directing work features bold color, strong women, and sometimes blood. Her first short film “Black In Red Out” screened at over twenty film festivals across the US, and she was featured in the documentary “Horror Noire” about the history of black horror alongside icons like Jordan Peele, Tony Todd and Rachel True. She is a founding member of the all female filmmaking collective Body Checker Productions. Her digital short form shows, music videos and branded beauty campaigns have millions of views online across Snapchat, Facebook and YouTube. Monica’s work is greatly inspired by questions of personal identity and trying to find one’s place is this big world.
- [Nicole Mejía](https://laliff.org/fellowship/nicole-mejia/): Nicole Mejia's short films “I Am” and “Shades of Blue” were key in granting her the 2019 Audi Fellowship for Women, a full scholarship to the American Film Institute Directing Program, which she just graduated from. Nicole creates stories about the resilience of the human spirit through drama, thriller and magical realism. She is currently in post-production for her first feature A Place in the Field that was shot safely during the pandemic. Her AFI thesis film “My Life Stopped at 15” has recently started the festival circuit and won best film at the Official Latino Festival.
- [Sebastián Rea](https://laliff.org/fellowship/sebastian-rea/): Sebastián Rea is an Ecuadorian-American filmmaker from New York City. After studying cinema and political science at SUNY Purchase College, he served as content manager for Tribeca Enterprises for 7 years, overseeing digital content across the festival, on-demand, and digital studios. His comedic short film, “Ruta Viva”, based on his family in Ecuador was picked up by HBO and his other short, “Skin”, about a gay man coming to terms with his weight, can be streamed on HereTV. He was selected as a fellow of the Industry Academy and Artist Academy at Film at Lincoln Center in 2019. He is also the founder of the 30 UNDER 30 Film Festival, which screens 30 films from 30 directors under 30 years old. He is a mentor for the Smithsonian Institute Latino Center's Young Ambassador Program, as well as a Council of Urban Professionals Fellow.
- [Shenny De Los Angeles](https://laliff.org/fellowship/shenny-de-los-angeles/): Dominican-American interdisciplinary performance artist. They centralize Black & Brown Caribbean femmes in her stories. Her short film, “The Ritual to Beauty'', received the Grand Jury Prize at Slamdance and the LOLA Award at the Philadelphia Latinx Film Festival. It is also now available to stream on The New Yorker. They have also been commissioned by The Latinx Playwright Circle, Latina Magazine, and Mabou Mines Theatre. Currently, as an Artist in Residence at Harlem Stage and Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Shenny is exploring ritual performance pieces that integrate spoken word in theatrical and cinematic form.
- [Sisa Quispe](https://laliff.org/fellowship/sisa-quispe/): Sisa Quispe is a Quechua Aymara award-winning director, writer, producer, and speaker in New York City. As an indigenous woman, her work largely seeks to inspire the preservation of native ways while sharing a decolonizing message. She is one of the winners of the 5th Annual Student Short Film Showcase by The Gotham Film & Media Institute with her Short film “Urpi: Her Last Wish”. “Urpi” premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival, won best short by an Indigenous Filmmaker at the Santa Fe International Film Festival in 2023, and was an official selection at the Oscar-qualifying Slamdance Film Festival in Utah. As host of the Instagram series “Native Voices,” Sisa interviewed Indigenous people throughout Abya Yala/Turtle Island. She also produced “Vive el Quechua” (“Living Quechua”), an episodic YouTube series preserving and sharing her Indigenous language and culture. She hopes to bring more representation of indigenous women’s perspectives to the screen and hopes to continue cultivating a path for indigenous youth to develop their voices.
- [Sofia Ayerdi](https://laliff.org/fellowship/sofia-ayerdi/): Chicana producer, writer and director and alumna of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Gold Rising Program. She is a fellow of Blackmagic Collective, from Blackmagic Design, and was part of the First Frame Initiative for emerging directors. She founded her production company, Zanate Films. Her recent work includes “Taliban Flower”, which aims to destigmatize male vulnerability through the eyes of a Taliban soldier in the 1990s. Most recently, she directed “El Sueño” which tells the story of an immigrant woman farmworker’s fight in the United States.
- [Stacy Pascal Gaspard](https://laliff.org/fellowship/stacy-pascal-gaspard/): Stacy Pascal Gaspard is passionate about sharing her rich, vibrant Afro-Latino and Caribbean culture and her passion for dance on the big screen. In 2021, Stacy was selected for the inaugural class of Indeed’s Rising Voices Program, which culminated in her latest short, “Soñadora”, Executive Produced by Lena Waithe and which had its premiere at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. She was also selected as the inaugural winner of Paxeros’ Women of Color Commercial Directing Program, where she directed a narrative spec car commercial for Subaru, winning a Shinny Award. She holds an MFA in Directing from the AFI Conservatory. Navigating the dual uncharted waters of being a first generation immigrant and the oldest sibling of five, Stacy thrives in creating a vibrant and heartfelt world for dreamers, with a dash of magic and a glimpse of hope.
- [Sylvia Ray](https://laliff.org/fellowship/sylvia-ray/): Sylvia Ray is an award-winning Chicana/Korean American director who focuses on telling stories about characters who overcome feelings of unworthiness. She found her love for storytelling through her parents who watched bootleg Korean dramas and Star Trek while in separate rooms. Her film “Preggers” won Best Comedy Short at the Arizona International Film Festival among other festivals throughout the US. She was selected for Hola Mexico’s Tomorrow’s Filmmakers Today program and, as a result, her film “Len(n)y” was streamed to audiences on Pantaya and DISH! Latino worldwide. On her latest film “The Middle” she worked with critically acclaimed actors like Julio Macias from Netflix’s On My Block and Victoria Moroles from Hulu’s Plan B. A Satellite Collective Fellow, Sylvia is based in Los Angeles and pulls inspiration from her desert-town upbringing, travels abroad, and motherhood. As someone who has found comfort and pride in her mixed roots, she is motivated to forge a path that her ancestors only dreamed of while making a positive impact in representation in front of and behind the camera.

With a track record in featuring her work at film festivals, galleries, and museums worldwide, such as the Tribeca Film Festival, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Gallery of Indonesia, her innovative approach to storytelling has led to sources like The Guardian, Forbes Magazine and Vogue naming her as a leader in the field of new and immersive media. She was a 2018 Sundance Institute New Frontier Lab Programs Fellow, a 2019 Gouden Kalf Nominee, a 2020 Creative Capital Award Recipient, and a 2020 Sundance New Frontier John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Grantee and much more.
- [William D. Caballero](https://laliff.org/fellowship/william-d-caballero/): William D. Caballero is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker, multimedia storyteller, 2018 Guggenheim Fellow, and 2021 Creative Capital Award recipient. Born in Coney Island, New York and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Caballero obtained the Gates Millennium Scholarship in 2001, and returned to New York City where he graduated from Pratt Institute (BFA Digital Art, 2006, Minor in Art History ) and New York University (MA The Arts and Humanities in Education, 2008). Caballero’s directorial films have debuted at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, 2013 Slamdance Film Festival, the Museum of Modern Art, and on major networks, such as HBO, PBS, Univision, and World Channel. He aims to empower all diverse creatives to tell their own stories in their own unique voice.
